It's interesting what perceptions will bring.
One thing I'm seeing on the list is such a general
dissatisfaction with new VAG dealers. That and the
percieved lack of reliability of the newer cars. I'm
in the same dilema as Taka, and I have the same concerns.
In addition, I'm looking for a good Auto-X'er, that still
meets my other needs (let's face reality, if one can stand
them, Neons/SRT4's make great Auto-X cars, VERY competitive
in class, but I just DON'T want one), but anything new
I can afford doesn't really seem to suit my fancy. Surprizingly,
in what arguably could be a "golden age" of auto offerings,
I'm not happy. Anyway, the comment about the dealers is
VERY telling. My mom has a 2002 Passat GLX 4-motion, and
the car has been essentially trouble free except for some
interior trim bits (the access doors in the cargo area kept
self opening, now fixed under warrantee). The difference has
been that the dealer has been remarkably cooperative to both
her, and myself when I have chosen to help her out. It's actually
pleasant to deal with their service department. It's enough that
I would certainly consider driving an hour to deal with them,
IF I could find a new VW that I really would want and could
afford (Hmmmmm, R32?.....a little too rich for my blood, and
any kid with an STi or Evo will still blow me away....).

The key phrase here is "the dealer fixes the problem". A lot of the
trouble with Audi's reputation lies with dealer attitudes and actions.
