Well, I have no business commenting on this thread, never having driven
an Audi made in the last 15 years, but, my 89 90Q was amusingly
illuminating in this regard.
Electrically, the car is rock-solid. Strong, clean charging voltage, no
connector or ground issues (the grmelins of the 80's), window switches
that keep working since they are internally sealed against grime now, etc.
Except! The row of switches in the dashboard, other than the seat
heater controls and the defroster switch (one has been around for a
while and the other is too simple to fail), are almost impossible to
keep working.
It seems it takes VAG/Bosch/whoever a few years to figure out how to
make their new switches/connectors/what-have-you work properly and
reliably over the long term. Everything else on the car electrically is
essentially 2nd or 3rd generation versions of things they had been doing
for years, those dash switches were a fairly new design at that point.
