Audi future

The current generation A6 body is coming to its end of life at 8 model
years. If you look at its history in the past years you'll find that
it had a few glitches. Fuel tank senders, window and bumper recalls,
MAF, and a few other things.

Compare that to the type 44's 1984-1991 7 year model run, I think the
problems are far less severe on the A6. I remember many more problems
at the end of the type 44's end-of-production time frame, when things
like steering racks, bombs, hydraulic pumps, climate control woes,
window switches, and other typical type 44 gremlins were already beginning
to surface.

The jury of course is still out on the really long term service of the A6,
but I do think Audi made vast improvements to its cars over the years.

Regardless of brand and model, as a car gets older it's going to need
TLC to keep going. The A6 is magnitudes more complex than the type 44
in the electronics, so don't expect miracles, but Audis are not alone
in this regard in this day and age. All cars of this class have very
complicated electronics. Fortunately, control modules themselves
rarely fail. It's the sensors, wiring, switches and contacts. So it's
a similar game... Bentley manual is your friend, and a VAG-COM or
Prodiag will be as essential as any tool. And of course, the family album
to help you track down parts. Be appreciative that these are readily
available and good quality. Owners of many other brands of cars might
not so lucky. Are similar things even available to a Lexus/Toyota or
Honda owner?
