Too rich 5kcstq - won't idle

If you take the air cleaner cover off and try adjusting the airflow meter flap, will the engine smooth out at all? The flap directly controls the amount of fuel sprayed into the engine. If you can control it, then maybe you just need to lean out or richen the mixture a lot more. Make sure you know which way is which. The SJM site is a good place for this info and troubleshooting procedures.
If that's not it, maybe your injectors are leaking... You can pull them out and watch the spray patterns and check for leaks w/ the fuel pump jumpered on and engine off. After that, you might need to get into measuring the fuel pressure and other CIS tests. I really doubt timing is the problem if you say there is lot's of black soot and engine flooding. But bad ignition and cam timing will definitely cause the car to run very rough. Good luck.

As far as I can tell, the timing is set right. I don't think I missed
anything there.
The car starts and runs, sounds fine, but it won't idle. If I give it
too much gas while trying to start it, it floods and I can't get it
started again unless I wait a few minutes. I tried pulling the fuel
pump fuse and cranking for a few seconds, then reinstalling the fuse and
trying again, but that hasn't been entirely successful either.
I tried removing the ISV and replacing it with an elbow, then adjusting
the CO set screw, but I still couldn't get the car to idle.
I also adjusted what I take to be the "Idle Adjustment Screw" (standard
screw on the front/top of the throttle body) in 1/4 turn increments by a
couple of turns either direction, like the CO set screw, but it didn't
seem to have any affect on my problem.
How can I make this heap idle well enough to get it to the mechanic?
Thanks for any words of wisdom.

PS. If there is a procedure for doing this, please provide a link--
