Replaced my O2 sensor on my 86 4kq yesterday, and checked the CSV (had a cold
start problem forever, decided to check it). After doing only these 2
things, the car just cranks, does not start up. Heres what I did. Checked fuel to
the fuel distributor, its getting there, but when we cracked open one of the
ports on top of the fuel distributor and tried the ignition, and even tried to
start the car, no dice, no fuel coming out of there at all.
So, after some conversation with a few Audi friends, I tore apart the fuel
distributor and cleaned up the airflow part. Sprayed everything with brake
cleaner, and everything looks as new, so I installed everything again. Let fuel
pump work with the ignition on (did that maybe 6 times to build pressure), then
tried to start car, no luck. I then cracked open the same line I did before
to check for fuel, there is fuel there this time, but in the process I broke
the bolt that holds the line in place.
Thats where it stands now. I checked some fuses (the spare fuse), and
another fuse that controls the fuel pump, both are A OK. A guy I know is sending me
a whole fuel distributor and injectors tomorrow.
For some reason, I dont think thats the problem, but its weird that I wasnt
getting fuel before to the injector lines, and this time I was (I saw fuel in
the holes on top of the fuel dist).
This baffles me, I checked the cap and rotor. Cap is a year old, as are the
plug wires, the rotor is a month old. The hall sender has been JB welded in
place by me a month ago to cure a stalling problem that happened only when
turning left harshly.
Any ideas you Audi gurus? This one has be stumped! I do have the bentley
and pobst FI book.
