> 1. Over tightened bolts: On one car I purchase the wheel bolts were so

I had overtightened bolts on my rear left wheel on my Audi 200 some
years back. The place I used to change my tyres is a branch of a very
large franchise and they used a air wrench even after I begged them not
to. When time came to remove the wheel I had to use my air wrench with
the compressor cranked to 10 bar (I think that's 140PSI or something)
and the 1/2" impact wrench opened up to full. It took 20-30 seconds of
flat out hammering before the bolts started to release. Prior to using
the wrench I used my breaker bar and some impact sockets and all that
that resulted in was my impression of the hulk lifting the rear of an
Audi 200.

> 2. Under tightened bolts: Well, your story is the typical case. I always

Had this as well on my 200. Had the car in to see what the deal was with
the brake warning light being on all the time. The place inspected all
the brakes, then gave me a $2000 quote (turned out to be a $30
electrical fault anyway) which I declined. Driving around after that I
heard clunking from the back of the car. On inspection I find that I
could remove the wheel bolts with very light finger pressure!

Who was this place that did it? A branch of Barons. Over here Barons is
the largest VW/Audi dealerships you can find. That specific branch was
given the worst rating in the country.

I still reckon alot of the mechs who work at these large places are just
too damn daft to open their own shops. And when they do.... :P
