Hydraulic system fluid capacity (Type-44)

Ameer,
I believe it to be around 2 litres but this reply is to say it will likely be far more. When replacing pump, rack, etc. I have found it necessarily to flush, bleed purge, whatever to the system such that a gallon or more of fluid may be used prior to the system operating properly - more or less depending upon circumstances. You will not beleive the amount of smuck that get expelled from the system when replacing the rack and/or pump, and I even observed this on a rebuilt rack. It is as if the system decides to puke its guts out when the lines are broken for service.
This is one reason you may want to consider an inexpensive alternative such as Mobil DTE-13M, at least to flust the system. Then if you still believe in having the correct AUDI/Pentosin fluid, you can drain the reservior and do the last flushes with 2-4 literes of the expensive stuff until you have relatively "pure" pentosin. I have not found this to be necessary however, and the Mobil DTE has been working fine in the cars I've seen it in. I think the DTE-13M is available for around $45 for a 5 gallon container.
I will hovever use the brand name (Audi fluid same as Pentosin 11 available at my dealer for $15/ltr with quattro club discount) if only topping off the low level in a reserviour, so I keep both on the shelf.

For anyone who has rebuilt their hydraulic system... Can anyone tell me how much Pentosin fluid to have on hand when rebuilding the entire system? Right now the rack and reservoir will need to be filled, All hoses are going to be new, so basically the system is completely empty. TIA.
