emergency oil cooler repair

Took a complete oil cooler off an 87 5K in a parts yard, and this is what I
found -

The oil cooler adaptor (plate with the two hoses connected to it) is
retained by the hollow stub the oil filter screws onto. It is located
(radially) by a roll pin which pushes into what would normally be the oil
filter gasket sealing surface on an engine without an oil cooler.

To remove the oil cooler, you'd need to change the oil filter stub and
remove the roll pin. Replace the oil filter stub with an 86 or older one
(no oil cooler model), and then just screw on a standard oil filter.

This is the reverse of putting an oil cooler on a 5K that was originally
not equipped with one - you need a roll pin and the correct oil filter stub
- just assemble it and you're in business! Removal is the reverse of
assembly (to mis-quote Bentley . . .)

Best Regards,
