Type 44 Cylinder Head Question

If you're not sure where TDC is, or for any reason you don't trust the
marks on the flywheel/harmonic balancer/cam pulley/distributor, it is
best to verify by sticking something in the cylinder (carefully, obviously).
Once you have positioned cyl #1 at TDC, mark the flywheel and harmonic
balancer! It will make life easier in the future. Then verify your
valve timing, and mark your cam pulley. Also verify that the marks on
the dizzy line up with the rotor after you've adjusted all the other timing.
Someone had suggested looking at the cam lobes to verify TDC. This only
works if you know your valve timing is perfect (cam is in sync with
crank). But if you are pretty sure about your timing, this is much
easier than sticking something in the cyl.
In regards to the marks on the cam pulley... I had a 5ks with TWO marks
on the cam pulley... one on front, one on back, offset about 30-50
degrees. No idea why.

problem. I have a small round mark on the 'OUTSIDE' of the camshaft
pulley. I have not been able to see any marks on the inside of the
pulley to line up with the top of the cylinder head. The mark on the
outside, does not sync with the mark on the flywheel for TDC. The car
was running when I parked it (mild overheating problem because of hose
that wife didn't catch in time.) At any rate, I don't think the timing
belt jumped simply because it was running so well. I don't know where
to go from here. I'm thinking about a thin rod dropped into cylinder 1
to see if TDC syncs with the mark at the bellhousing. Maybe someone has
been down this road in the past on this car and the camshaft pulley was
removed and reinstalled incorrectly? Any thoughts or suggestions?
