Clutch stays down in 87 CGT

Odds are that your clutch slave cylinder is bad.  It's mounted on the 
top of the bell housing, is fairly cheap, and a pain to replace.

Also check: that your brake fluid reservoir has not run dry, since this 
could result in air in the clutch system, causing what you observe.  Of 
course, if this happened, it would mean there was a leak somewhere anyway.

There is also a possibility that the clutch master cylinder is what is bad.

Going nuts and doing the "complete" job would be to replace both 
cylinders, and the hose between them, and checking the firewall 
carefully (where the master mounts) for cracks, and repairing that while 
the master is off.
