Car detailing

Just a quick note...on the advice of my mechanic I picked up a container of
Zymol HD Cleanse. The stuff is great, really prepares the paint surface
nicely for waxing.

I did a three part detailing today. After washing my S6, I used Meguiar's
swirl remover, which did a pretty good job of cleaning up the paint surface.
Then I used the HD Cleanse, which really smoothed the paint surface and
prepared it for wax. After the HD Cleanse, the surface felt like it had
already been waxed...it was that smooth. I used my Porter Cable random
orbital polisher for both the swirl remover and the HD Cleanse, making quick
work of both jobs.

I then put down a coat of Zymol Carbon wax, by hand. I gotta say, I'm not
that impressed with the stuff. I know the BMW folks rave about it, but maybe
it's because it's really expensive, it comes with an owner's manual, the jar
has a rubber gasket and it has to be refrigerated after opening. Typical
tweaker stuff.

It went on easily and came off just as nicely, but I don't think it's any
better than the Auto Glym I had used previously. I also understand that it
may not last very long. And it is pricey. I think I'm going back to Auto
Glym after I use up the tin. Of course, that may be a while...

At any rate, the car does look pretty nice. I also cleaned and fed the
leather with CB HideFood, and shampooed the carpets.

Anybody have a strong feeling about Zymol or other wax?

Next up is the wife's A6. Her pearl paint is in better condition than my
green metallic, but inside her car is a pigsty. We'll get to that next week,
weather permitting :)
