Thanks for the note Tony!
I suppose you might even ask who I was ... since I can't find time to keep
up with the main qlist any more ... Tom's a long time lister who lives in
the Netherlands and has been extremely helpful ... especially when it comes
to scale models and European sales literature ... and Audis in movies ... :)
We met Tom when he came out to Pikes Peak for AF 97, and I had the pleasure
of offering him a place to stay and an urq to drive down to MH99. That's
when the idea of him taking my 1978 Fox GTI back to Europe for restoration
came about. He was planning to come over before the 9/11 stuff happened ...
so we got put off a couple years ...
I still love my old Fox ... I bought it new in 1978 ... in fact it is the
only new car I've ever bought! I had some smog test issues with it some
number of years ago, and my not understanding California's registration
system created a situation where the registration fees and penalties added
up to considerably more than the car was worth ... so the car sat on my
driveway. You can see a picture in the registry ...

I'll update the entry with a new picture and description when I have the
chance ... the Fox is a great car and gave me lots of memories and excellent
service ... since it is so simple it is very robust ... but it doesn't quite
qualify as practical for the family and the urq scores considerably higher
on my "fun" meter ... so I don't think I'll find another that will catch my
fancy ...
