Knock Sensor or Timing Sensor ?

Hi Fella and Sistah Listers !

On my '89 200 Turbo Non-Q Automatic my hubby has been checking codes.
The car has been running really bad in damp/wet weather, and it will
not go up any grade very well at all.
If I press the gas even more than the slightest bit, it misfires.

1. Are the knock sensors (white and red) interchangeable ?

One code we found was the second knock sensor code and the parts
people tell us there is only one knock sensor... and the Bentley
manual says there are two and there are TWO in the car ???

He was thinking of switching them and running some more code tests
while it was running and I was afraid something bad might happen
without asking the list. That procedure of switching them is NOT in
the Bentley Manual. I thought perhaps that might be for a reason.
Is there any harm to doing that ?

2. Is there a way to test them individually off of the car ?

3. Hoes does one check clearance of timing sensor ?

4. Can I get any of these parts used at a reasonable price ? Where?

5. Which ones would anyone recommend be absolutely new because
something might wreck the car?

It seems that the possible probles are knock sensor, timing sensor,
hall sender, engine speed sensor?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated ! Thanks !! - Cat
