Indecisive temp gage needle

Replace your coolant temperature sensor.
It's a very inexpensive and easy to change part, and they are very failure
prone. I just replaced one on my A4. Cost about $6.00 and 5 minutes of
work.
The faulty sensor may cause your car to run rich if it's reading cold. The
car may never get out of cold-start mode, where the mixture is kept slightly
rich. This will surely affect your gas mileage over time, and may affect
performance somewhat, although not significantly.
Best regards,
Greg
