Headlight Combo Switch question

 Hi All;
I have a question reguarding  the headlight combo switch.
My 1988 90Q has the old style headlight combo switch. My question is, can it
be replaced(swapped) with the newer type?(91-93?) Is it a direct swap?Does
it have the same type and amount of electrical connectors,ect?
Or is it completely different and impossable to do without major work?
