This will be of interest to a fraction of listers, but if your a/c no
longer works on your 4k you can easily mod the York compressor for OBA
(onboard air). This is common in some circles altho I doubt many
listers hang out in such circles :)
I plan to do this soon to my '87 4k as the condensor was cracked in a
deer encounter. Why? Well mostly 'cause it seems that I ALWAYS have
one tire with a slow leak and I'm constantly filling it up to buy me a
few more days until I deal with it (yeah right). But of course you
could also inflate tires for friends in parking lots, etc and if you
install a small tank (perhaps in the trunk) you could run an impact for
those roadside flat changes (how cool would that be? ok, I'm a tool
geek).
The York will put out WAY more air than any 12V version on the market,
barring one version which uses a York crankcase tied to an electric
motor to the tune of $600.
I know some remove the a/c to reduce weight and improve weight
distribution, in which case keeping the York doesn't help you. If
you've removed your compressor I would be interested in buying it for a
small fee plus shipping..............contact me off-list.
TTBOMK the Yorks only came in Type 85's, altho my '81 4k had a mini
York (similar). You can do this with other compressors too but you'll
need an inline oiler and filter.

That's the evaporator.

The glove box has to come out first, at the very least.
