Are we talking about up front right by and below the crank pulley?
If so we have a oil temp sender. The spring is for the plunger (oil pump)
Hope this helps you

Subject: Typ 89 Oil press sender

Haudi all, have 2 questions:
1. What is the piece that threads into the front bottom of the NG engine
with a spring inside it and a single wire screwed on its top? I thought it
was the oil pressure sender for the check system (the red blinking oil
symbol light), yet I was sold a piece with much smaller thread and a spade
for the wire by a very reliable parts supplier.
2. Is the oil pressure sender for the warning light just below the other oil
pressure sender for the gauge with the 2 wires?

TIA,
Tihol
