Immobilizer codes?

It's not looking so good on that front.  See the message below from the
VAG-COM list.  Essentially, even if the dealer was so inclined to provide
you with that information, they themselves will no longer have access to it.
It will be handled by some unseen person in Germany.  My assumption is that
this will apply to Audi as well.  I can't imagine the courts not getting
involved, especially in the US, as it essentially shuts out all the
independent repair shops, not to mention the back yard mechanic that
actually owns the car.  It seems that VAG is taking a page from the software
world in the sense that while you may own the car, you don't own the rights
to the information inside it.  It will be interesting to see the outcome
once all the dust settles.
