NG v. NF

So your saying that an NF head can't be used in an NG application because
of the vacuum pump on the drivers side of the head, regardless of the
injector location.

The heads are certainly different. One has a machined spot for the cam
driven vacuum pump (NG) the NF does not.

And a quick way to check if it's an NF1 or NF2 is to look at the intake
manifold, if it's a two piece unit (top half unbolts from the bottom)
then it's a later style manifold with the injectors in it.
