Since your 4kq was manufactured Audi has made leaps and bounds with the quality of the their vehicles. You might want to consider a later model 80/90 quattro if you want to stick with a 5 cylinder or possibly move up to a 97/98 A4 quattro. The A4's with higher mileage are starting to get inexpensive. Unfortunatly the insurance company will probably only offer you a couple grand at most for your 4000...
