Thanks to Denis, Tihol, and Kneale for telling where the filler
plug is and what grease to use. Robert Tetrault suggested:

I'd suggest that your driveline center support bearing is the culprit. It
sounds like a dry tranny, and yet is much less expensive. You may be able
to inject some lube into it to quiet it as a diagnostic, but replacement
is the only fix.

That's the jackpot! I sprayed some WD-40 into the center bearing (both
front and rear entrances) and Voila.....the howling is completely gone :-)
I've got to bone up on how to repalce the bearing now. Is it practical to
try it without the alignment jig they show?
