Type 89 aux radiator removal - plug or connect ?

I am getting conflicting answers on this.

I've removed the aux radiator on my 88 90Q.

I got a short section of 3/4" ID copper coupling which beautifully fits
inside the supply and return hoses to the aux radiator, and then hose
clamped the two hoses together around this coupler.

So essentially, I replaced the aux radiator with a 1" long section of pipe.

Was this the right thing to do ?  Some people say keep the water circuit
going (what I've done), others say to plug the supply and return lines so
there is no flow through those hoses any longer.
