87 5000 throttle cable BTDT?

Hi all, today my throttle cable (5000 csqa) snapped. I was able to rig it
using a hose clamp and bolt (don't ask!) to drive to where I needed to go
and the repair seems pretty bomber, but I'm going to have to replace the
cable and I want to do it sooner rather than later.

I'm looking for Been There Done That advice, particularly how the cable
attaches to the gas pedal and how best to thread the cable from the pedal to
the throttle.
