TFH tells me it's ok to drive an Audi for months with a rod knocking. And I
think you're right, there's no AutoCheck display for that. My question is:
How come there's no light to tell you AutoCheck is not working right. Oh
wait, there is--if your car has 200K+ miles and the AutoCheck is lit, it's
broken.

Went outside, the sky was NOT falling on this side of the ocean.
Lots of things MIGHT kill you, but nothing in the autocheck is a life or
death matter. Important systems like impending brake problems have their
own very red warning light, hydraulic assist is a nice luxury, but people
seem to have survived for about a century without it. You're supposed to
check you fluid levels etc. regularly anyway.
The rest of the things that "might" kill you or someone else, are those that
fail without warning, or make their impending failure known by strange
sounds and sensations. Ball joints, tie rods, lug nuts (bolts), bad tires,
etc. etc. come to mind WAY before anything dealt with in the Autocheck.
I think you're much more likely to have a catastrophic failure if you put
too much faith in the autocheck system to tell you everything that's wrong
with your car, coming to a roadside ditch near you: "yeah, it's had a
knocking sound for months, but according to the autocheck the only thing
wrong with the car was it was low on washer fluid."
Even to this day, vehicles with dozens of onboard computers and hundreds of
sensors, still utilize good ole low tech reliable systems for the important
stuff.
