i use 225 on 8 inchs ..... 225 on 6 mmmm much to small. Why pay for large tire if the mags dont go with that width. You ll lose traction in corners. You ll get more traction on 215 max. I use 215 on 7 inchs wheels.
People use 225 on 6 inchs just for look. It s like use out of order leaky shocks with Yokohama tires on 17 x 8 wheels;;;;
6 inchs is the wheel width inside the lips.

Yup, the wheels are 6" wide, and the offset is 40mm. 225 is a little wide for that wheel, but doable. Most tire manufacturers recommend using a wheel that's at least 70% the width of the tire. So (6" * 25.4)/0.7 ~ 217mm. So technically 215's would be the max size tires, but I've seen lot's of people go over that limit w/o problems...I guess you could downsize when they wear out... but the main thing is to make sure the tire doesn't rub the bodywork or suspension. Also, you gotta keep the outer diam. of the tire the same as OE, otherwise you're speedo and mileage readings will be off a bit. When going to plus size wheels or increasing the tire width, you need to reduce the profile, say from 50 to 45. Any online tire size calculator will come in handy for comparing the OE tire size to the one you want.

I have a set of Audi steel wheels with 225-50R16 tires on them. The
tires look a bit too wide for the wheels, but I'd like to know whether
this is my imagination.
I copied the following info off one:
6Jx16H2
ET40
DIN 6
T1 99
SRD 162201
8D0601
027A
I'm not sure how to decrypt this. Are they 6" wide wheels? How wide
a tire should one mount on such a beast?
Thanks!
-Ben
