I can't find it: Where do I check the trans fluid level on my '93 200CS

I found the fill tube by the master cylinder, but not the dipstick. 
Where on earth is this thing?  According to the owners manual, they 
should be the same, but there is only a cap for the fill tube, not a 
dipstick.  It doesn't look modified in any way.  the car has a rebuilt 
trans.  Would they change this?
