re. MC code 2141 + loss of power = fuel pump?

2141 (Blink Fault Code), VAG1551/2 Fault Code Number 00535 
Knock regulator #1
Excessive knock, timing is being retarded by maximum amount 7.8 degrees, Low boost on 20V, 
Fuel octane too low, Excessive Compression, excessive boost

1.6 is not good for QLCC - should be at least 1.7 and when things are sorted, 1.8 bar.

My guess is you have an air leak, possibly unmetered(the waffle boot and surrounding hoses comes to mind, as they are after the airflow sensor plate.  The end result, lean condition inducing knock and the subsequently retatded timing,  fuel and boost.

I just got an intermittent check engine light with code 2141 and loss of 
power. SJM list says excessive knock. Boost seems OK (1.6 on QLCC). I have 
noticed that my fuel pump has been running quite loud lately. The noise 
eems to vary with electrical load. Anyone know if low fuel pressure could 
cause the 2141? Thanks.
