You may also want to have the throttle valve spring checked out. The TB on my previous 5kT sometimes would stick and rev the motor to almost 2500 rpm. If the throttle plate is closing all the way, I'd definitely start looking into the Idle Stablizing system. There maybe a vac. leak in one of the hoses to the ISV or intake manifold. It could be the ISV(Idle Stabilising Valve), sensors, or even the ISV computer or associated wiring.

This is what my cousin wrote to me. He is keeping my Audi for a few months.

The car has not been driven since Aug 04, 2002. Can anyone
relate to what this problem could be?
