My fuss is easy to understand.  The car shifted and I didn't tell it to.
It's (according to my preference) broken.

That's a fine feature to have.  Just let me turn it off.  Easily.

Now, if it lets you bounce off the limiter a few times before shifting,
that's probably less obnoxious.  

I suspect you've watched enough racing to know that just because you've
bounced off the limiter once doesn't mean "hey, I'll just upshift!"

Yeah ?  I rode in an early production SMG M3 for the specific purpose of
trying to see what it was like.  I'd probably prefer a manual because
downshifting under braking was jerky and if I practiced a lot, I could do it
better.  I wouldn't by any means say I "hated" it.  

Don't think of this as a "DSG vs. the World" problem, or like you are
obligated to defend Audi at all costs.  I'm just opining that I dislike it
when automakers design systems that think for me.  I have come to accept my
limited cognitive abilities, and get by perfectly fine on my own, thanks :)
