Cutting a hole in the trunk, and bolting, welding and fitting the entire
front end of a 1.8T in the back would probably be an easier way to go. 
We did something similar in high school shop class many moons ago with a
Cheby Luv engine and a Valiant.  Always wondered what happened with that
one, semester ended and I switched schools before the project was
finished.
