Take a look in the trunk. Pull the carpet at the back of the trunk to expose
the cover plate for the tank access. Remove the 3 screws and take the cover
plate off. You will see the top of the fuel tank pump and sender assembly. If
you see any fuel there, one of the 3 hose connections might be loose. I would
try to tighten them anyway just to make sure. One hose will be a banjo fitting
and the other 2 are regular hose clamps. The one with the banjo fitting, take a
look to see if the crush washers are assembled correctly. There should be two
washers, one above and below the banjo fitting with the banjo bolt going
through them. With the other 2 hoses with the hose clamps, remove the hoses and
inspect the nipple the hose slips over. Make sure that isn't cracked. Since the
car is new to you and you filled up the tank, I'm guessing that you were
exploring the boundaries of your car by doing a little spirited driving :) There is
a rubber O-ring under the pump/sender assembly. If that is missing or
damaged, or the sender assembly is not installed correctly, the fuel sloshing around
in the tank when full would spill out and give the impression of a fuel leak.
