Either we have poor long term memory or this is a common occurrence 
because I remember a thread about this very same subject making the 
rounds in the last year or so that ignited the very same firestorm of 
comments as now.

I for my part think that if you put in the correct battery with the 
combined hold down and seat support there's no problem cover or no. 
I've never seen any evidence of abrasion on the plastic terminal cover 
that would indicate that the seat structure gets anywhere near the 
terminal. Any mechanic that installs a battery without some sort of 
hold down deserves to be strung up by his genitals. If you don't care 
enough to wonder just what is holding the battery down or what that 
threaded hole behind the battery is for you shouldn't be allowed to 
touch a wrench. This is coming from a former airline mechanic so of 
course my standards are a little high but just the same lazy is lazy.
