I expect this thread will be kicked shortly, but here you go. If you were old
enough to remember the "Rapid Transit System", you wouldn't have to ask the
question, you'd be suggesting I have it painted "Plum Crazy" , "Sub Lime" or
"Go Green". :)
To be serious, some of it is effort v. horsepower. The Audi V6 is anemic.
For much less money and effort, I could put in a 20V N/A (there are a ton of
those around here) and only come up 10-15 hp short of the V6. Part of it is "My
friends they have Porsches, I must make amends". I bought the '82 because I
have always liked the Coupes (I am a sucker for the "folded cardboard" look) and
as an '82 it is exempt from emissions testing. That means I own the car, not
the tree huggers. I'm not really an anti-environmentalist, but how many '82
cars can be left on the road that the volume of emissions is important. Part was
that I was offered the Chrysler motor and I had that six-pack manifold kicking
around with nothing to do. If I had been offered an Audi V8. I might have
decided on another direction. It is so big, that it would crowd the compartment.
I don't like it when minor maintenance requires 5 hours of disassembly to
reach a minor item. Or, like a SAAB, pull the motor to change the clutch. Anyway,
it was offered to me, I liked the idea, quick measurements indicate that it
will fit with a little application of cut off wheel and MIG to the oil pan. I
think it will be fun, I think that much more horsepower might be too much for a
FWD car, I just hope I can find the time.
