I did the job.
I removed the diff. The flange are easy to get out (dont remember if bolted or press in)
If the bolt are nice , re-use them sure.
It takes about an hour to get the rear diff out.
-CV wheels flange bolts,
-CV drive shaft bolts
-Rear diff bolt
-Front bolts
Both CV seal are the same : 45-60-8 (same as one side of a 5000TQ rear diff)
5 min the get the seals out.
5 min to put it back with a PROPER tool (if you dont use proper tool the seal ll be miss-aligned and ll not do last)
An hour to put it back. , the time for a beer, sit and look what s left to do :-)

Subject: Rear Diff Seal
Howdy Folks,
Looks like I'll be needing to replace the rear diff
seal on my 97 A4 18tqa. Possibly also for the center
diff as well.
But my question pertains to the rear diff seals for
now. Any BTDT and average time to replace.
Appears that the axle needs to be removed to get
access to the seal. Does the axle bolt need to
replaced or can it be reused?
