Alternator noise to power AMP

I agree a CAP shouldn't help the clipping to that great of an extent because the transitent peak react too fast for the CAP to be effective. In essence the amplifier runs out of power capacity (not enough internal wattage reserve). and then clips. The CAP might help if there is a power cable issue (IE: 20 gauge wire) but IMHO the CAP will not effact the power capacity of the amp.
What is the wattage of the amp and what brand is it? An amp upgrade might be inorder. What type of music are you listening too. Are the speakers up to the bass you are giving them?
The amp rating should have verbage similar to 100 watts x 2 channel from 20 -20K hz with no more than .05% distortion. Be wary of any distorion figure above 3%. Actually I like to see it way lower, like .5% or less.
If it just gives peak power rating then you are not seeing the whole picture.
1000 Watts peak power is like saying my A4 goes 170 mph. Sure it does on a ski slope downhill, with a 50 mph tail wind. That is not indicative of overall performance.

That sound like a weird band-aid. How much power is the amp supposed to
generate? You mentioned a 10 ga ground lead, that's good for about 300
watts at 12 volts. Have you measured the power supply voltage on a fast
acting meter at the amp while it is running hard?

See comment above...
