type 44 clutch problem

The "power" hydraulics system is separate from the brakes/clutch
hydraulics.  Your clutch is fed from the brake fluid reservoir.  The
hydraulics to the rack use the "power" hydraulics system with different
fluid.  Since the PO told you there was an issue with the clutch MC, you'd
have been farther ahead to change that and the slave while you had easier
access to the slave with the engine out, but they can be changed with it in
place, it's just more of a struggle.  You could try bleeding the clutch
hydraulics.  Postings on this list have suggested running a hose from the
driver front caliper to the slave and pumping the brakes to bleed the
clutch system.
