90q20v won't start

I pulled the codes with no problem and got 4444.  I am getting a visible spark to the plugs.  Now I have chased it to the fuel pump.  I swapped the relay from another car to make sure that wasn't the problem and got the right voltages at the right times in the relay socket.  I loosened the fittings on the fuel filter and hit the starter.  The pump hums but I don't get anything but a slow drip even when I hot wire the pump right from the battery to terminal 52.  I loosened the supply line to the pump and fuel gushed out. I know the tank is not empty, the first thing I did was add 3 more gallons.  Mechanical failure inside the fuel pump?  I am going to check further before I go out and buy a new one.  Maybe borrow the one off the other car.
