A8 opinions

My father owned (USA models) a 1999 and a 2000 A8 which I regularly
drove and did the routine maintenance on. Both were "lemons" (had
problems Audi couldn't fix).
Wonderful cars to drive, expensive parts to replace. Lots of
electronics which didn't seem to be fully developed (example- the 1999
had a heated steering wheel which after several fires in the USA, Audi
deleted that feature for 2000). Ultimately, a great car for an
engineer (I loved showing off the front crash structure and machined
door hinges). Solidly built.
Best advice I could give- have someone (like an owner) who knows how
everything works look at the car. Electronics failures are the weak
link and car cost a LOT of money. Also be wary of any body work, as
precautions have to be made when working on the aluminum intensive
structure.
Good luck!
