Don't scrap it yet ! There is a cheap solution, and it's called a
"speedi-sleeve" or a "redi-sleeve".

This little stainless steel cylinder is available in different sizes and was
design to repair the nose of a worn crankshaft precisely when the oil seal
grooved it too deep. They are worth around 30$, and if my memory is serving
me well, CR (Chicago Rawhide), SKF and Bower-BCA all sell these little
wonders.

Look here for more info :

or

Here, you can find one sleeve with just the shaft outer diameter:
http://www.21cgt.com/FMWebCatalog/default.htm and click on "Specification"
then enter "National oil seals" then "wear sleeves" then enter your TC shaft
diameter and you're all set.
If my EKTA search was correct for a Passat 93 VR6-Auto, then the seal is
51x65x7, meaning you need a sleeve for a 51mm shaft. There is at least 2 in
the search engine (J1109 and J1396).

I am pretty sure there is one for your application. Good luck !
