Kent,
Euro lights are defiantly very good, no body would argue to the contrary. I
have run 55Watt 100Watt 160Watt (in Euro housings) and maybe a few more that
I don't recall. The only issue I can mention is that more wattage DID not
translate into more usable beam. Once you pass a certain point, a bigger
bulb is meaningless, it actually give you less not more! It also depends in
the size of the reflector you are putting the bulb in. A larger reflector
is always better, but I have seen some outstanding performance from very
small reflectors.
HID are unbeatable! No Euro can touch them (in my own humble opinion), the
problem with the HID is that they throw a lot of light, I mean a LOT! but it
is not too easy to control. Most set ups in OEM are usually using a twin
bulb arrangement, the HID is used for low beam and a separate halogen is
used for high beam. There are few OEM set ups in the market that utilize a
single HID bulb for both: high and low, but it is difficult to do. The way
some of them do it is with s shutter connected to an electrical solenoid.
You flip the high beam and shutter goes up, hence more long range beam.
Take care,
Avi

When I spent $800 or so to upgrade to Euros on my 1989 200,
it was money well spent. I couldn't believe the literally
night-and-day difference between the two.
Are HIDs that same night-and-day difference compared to
Euros w/100 watt bulbs?
