Patient-1982 Coupe

Background-Over the past couple of weeks (since getting cooler), the coupe
has shown the definite signs of heater core failure. By that I mean, little
heat, slight sweet smell and fogging of the windows after running hot and
shutting the engine off. I just checked and there is antifreeze dripping out of
the heat exchange box. Now, to make things extremely easy, I removed all AC
components (both inside and outside of the car) after I bought the car 3 years
ago, so I can see the cover for the heater core along with the supply and
return lines from the cooling system.

My question is, is the core just slid into the "groove", or are there any
fasteners holding it in place? I'll hopefully pick one up this week and R&R
it. Any BTDTs?

TIA, and Happy Holidays.
Dan

It merely slides in (or out as the case may be). The proximity to the
firewall does make it a bit difficult, and the heater hose connections can be very
frustrating.
I also used very thin, adhesive backed weather-strip around the new core to
ensure air would not bypass the new unit. A good vacuuming out of the air box
is also a good idea while you have the unit open.
Good luck.
