You asked: "I need to remove the ignition switch from the column. I
pulled the
instrument cluster and removed the plastic housing from the switch. How do
you remove the switch from the casting? I don't see any set screws or
push-pins. There appears to be a cover on the side of the casting but it
doesn't want to come off."
Rick
You remove the steering wheel (mark the position with an awl or other
scratching tool) and switchgear (unplug all the wires), remove the
pieces that hold the shaft up (a cupped locking washer and a spring, I
believe), and remove the steering lock assembly pinch bolt (6mm allen
head) on the left side of the housing. With the key in and the lock
disengaged (turn it on, then off, but don't remove the key) the steering
lock then pulls out. The ignition switch is held in place by a smallish
phillips head machine screw. Inspect the condition of the tang in the
center of the now-empty bore. Make sure the new switch is in the "off"
position, then insert it into the housing and reinstall the screw. If
you need to replace the tumbler, it can be done without all that, but
measuring and drilling is involved. Reassembly, as they say, is the
reverse of removal. HTH, John
