Makes sense- it's a solvent, and on an old carb'd vehicle, it would
help with the gunk in the intake manifold.

I ran an old chainsaw (something that had been 'written off', and old
as in "older than I am") at home off what might have been somewhere
between 1/4 and 1/8th mix.

Nursing it along with the choke, I found after both runs a wet sooty
slime on the case of the chainsaw around the muffler. Looks like it
barfed up quite a bit of carbon soot. Mixture adjustments are way
off, but once I have those figured out, I think it'll run better.
Noticeable improvement in the amount of carbon on the spark plug,
piston head, and from what little I could see of the exhaust/intake
ports. Rings look kinda shot though...I also don't think they're
supposed to puff smoke out the carb :-)

Yep, it generates a LOT of smoke - more than even a normal MGB would! - out the tailpipe for a while, and I wouldn't stand near the tailpipe wearing light-colored pants after it's run for a couple of minutes!
