4444 and still no start

The patient:  my '94 100 S Avant with 12V V6

I had been getting DTC 4332, which indicates: Ignition Output
1, 2, or 3. Possible causes: Short to positive (B+) or ground
in the ignition output stage and/or wiring connection between
the ECM and the power output stage, or ECM is faulty.

I replace the aptly-named POS (power output stage) with a used
part.  The car still won't start.  I cleared the codes and tried
again.  It's taunting me with 4444 - no codes.

I have yet to test for gas or spark; I'll try that tomorrow.
In the mean time, any suggestions?
