how do you test for spark?

Just kidding (unless I get a good offer :). I spliced in a spare
coil, and got the same (rrrr rrrr 1/2 cough rrrr rrrr rrr). I
checked the codes and was taunted with 4-4-4-4.  I am very
frustrated.

But now that I am writing this and have cooled off a little,
I'm wondering if the spare coil I put in is working...  Time
to check for spark off that coil.

If that "tests" bad, too, maybe it isn't the coil.  What
else could it be?  The POS?  The ECU?
