bosch alternators and belts

I agree, those older bosch alternators are pretty
inderstructible. I've had several with over 200K miles on
them, running 100 W watt headlights & 55 watt fogs, jump
started all sorts of cars, trucks, and even a bus. Never had
one fail yet. The only problem I have had was with one
brand of belt. Dayco belts would survive about a week.
Switched to Gates, problem solved. Apparently, the dayco
has a bit too much "stretch" so they slip, get hot, snap.
Why did they ever do away with that gear-drive belt
tensioner? I love those things.
