Supertorque timing belt conversion question

I did not do this conversion. Most of the reaction to my original
question back in October was "why bother?" I also bounced this
idea off Scott Mockery and his reaction was similar. I had contemplated
it originally because "back in the old days" when the type 44 was
less than ten years old, there had been some buzz on this list about
mods which seem less worth while now that technology has passed
the car by in may respects. The "Superbelt" mod, a la 1989-1990
model years was one of them.
Jim Green is certainly correct regarding the ease of conversion
provided you have some reason to have the crank pulley off -
like a T.B. change. Audi did make one other part change not
on Jim's list. The diameter of the idler pulley, a.k.a. "relay roller,"
was different on the Superbelt MC motors being reduced to
68.7 mm from the 5kt's 74 mm. I now strongly suspect, since
a new oil pump comes equipped with this idler pulley, that the
oil pump p/n difference is due to the pulley difference alone.
That was the issue behind my original question. Judging from
Jim's btdt, I'd say there is enough adjustment range for the
T.B. tension that the idler pulley diameter is not critical.
