If you can determine there is indeed a groove in the shaft, then you can
place the seal slightly less than bottomed out in its cavity so that the
seal rubs on a different location. Or you can try to "fix" the groove. In
the Audifans archives there should be reports of using a very thin sleeve
that fits over the shaft. Also there should be reports of using something
like crocus cloth (an abrasive cloth) with WD40 or similar lubricants to
remove the groove if it's really minimal.
