Wow it has been a long journey.... this rebuild has taught me many things.
1. the biggest thing.... dig deep into your instincts and you'll find
the answer.
so I had an Idle problem after a complete rebuild. Not only a rebuild
but enhancement as well with a K24 turbo, 3 pc exhaust manifold, 272
cam (root of all evil) and a 3" 304 ss turbo back exhaust. (detail of
rebuild - http://www.audifans.com/registry2/car.php?carid=189 )
I have literally touched everything
the entire fuel system
the ignition system
engine mechanics, drive train, and interior
SO... I have learned when you change mechanical values, you must
change air fuel mixture values to make up for any areas lacking.
With the 272 cam installed, the down stroke of the pistons did not
create enough vacuum to idle the car, nor enough to start it
consistently.
With all of the research I've done... all I kept reading were mixture
adjustment procedures with a car that runs and idles. Hmmm.... mine
didn't. so something else must be wrong. Well after tons of
frustration and unfathomable thought... I had my best friend start the
car and attend to the gas peddle. I noticed the car was running lean
of course its running lean!!! A shot of ether starts it and it
runs.... let the RPMs drop and she stalls... hmm... fuel
deprivation?!! Well, I went back into the Bentley and the SJM website
and reread for the 20th time how to adjust idle mixture:
http://www.sjmautotechnik.com/trouble_shooting/boost.html#mixture
I knew after a hundred or so rechecks that I didn't have a leak in the
intake system... so
I turned the mixture screw a total of a 1/2 turn and she started up
easily and idled!!!! woohoo!!!
Then as most of you may have heard or in fact know, the 272 cam
doesn't make for a nice low idle so after unplugging the ISV to let it
reset its values in the ECU, I turned out the Idle Speed screw to
increase the rpms. plugged in the ISV and there it was.... all of my
hard work to fruition.
Thanks all for your help and support, I am much more aware and
knowledgable because of all ofyou!
