I don't know if I generated more confusion, but there are both
"Craftsman" branded ratcheting wrenches and "Gearwrench" branded
ratcheting wrenches.
I got the Gearwrench brand and am very happy with them. IIRC, they do
have a lifetime warranty, but I don't know if they will do an
on-the-spot replacement like they do with the Craftsman tools. First
time I had to use the replacement policy was when I was trying to
extract a broken alternator bolt and had two extractors break when
they weren't supposed to. Nice to be able to just go to any Sears and
get the broken tool replaced, just like that.
When I looked at both brands, it seemed to me that the Gearwrench ones
were of higher quality- the Craftsman version looked cheap. I don't
mind Craftsman tools in general (I have a ton of them), but I don't
like their ratchets- too much play when the socket is locked in and
requires too much rotation for the ratchet to engage. Gotta find a
similarly priced wrench that works better- Facom and the like are
nice, but way too pricey.
